Bigdreaux,
I hope it helps.
VM44,
I tend to agree with you, uniformity is more important than truth in witlessland.
in the first issue of the zion's watch tower it had this to say:.
"what is truth".
this question is one which every sincere christian should ask and seek to answer.

Are you really a master or a wolf in sheeps clothing?

In the first issue of the Zion's Watch Tower it had this to say :
"What Is Truth"
This question is one which every sincere Christian should ask and seek to answer. We should learn to love and value truth for its own sake; to respect and honor it by owning and acknowledging it wherever we find it and by whomsoever presented. A truth presented by Satan himself is just as true as a truth stated by God.
Perbaps no class of people are more apt to overlook this fact than the Christian. How often do they in controversy overlook and ignore truth presented by their opponents. This is particularly the case when arguing with an infidel. They feel at perfect liberty to dispute everthing he says of religious subjects. This is not the correct principle. Many infidels are honest - as anxious to speak and believe the truth as are Christians - and if in converse with them we ignore truths which they may advance, we not only fail to convince them of our truths, but put an end to all hope of reaching them; for our failure to admit the evident truth which they advance begets in them contemt for the one who is not honest enough to admit one truth because he does not see how it can be reconciled to another. Accept truth wherever you find it, no matter what it contradicts, and rely for ability to afterwards harmonize it with others upon "the Spirit of truth, which shall guide you into all truth," as Jesus promised. (italics in original text)
Not only do they not believe it, but substitute the word apostate for infidel, and its obious that they don't?
Thoughts?
hi, this is very long, sorry, but i need to talk to someone about how i feel.. i'm not a jw although for a short time i studied with them back in 1984 along with my younger sister.
my sister became a jw in 1984 and about that very same time i accepted jesus christ as my savior, but did not become a jw as i disagreed with some of their teachings.
i did and still do attend the church of god.she has four children.
I felt compassion and almost cried when I heard about it as that son is a good kid who helped his mom out when his dad wasn't around. He got a job when he was 16. I wanted to call my sister and say how sorry I was to hear about it, as I heard she's very upset about what happend to her son . Yet my mind goes back to the fact that she didn't seem concerned what I was going through, when it involved MY son.
Your sister's situation, and unfortunately her son's, it a direct result of the religion she follows. As I'm sure you are aware from your brief time studying with them, they are taught that the most important thing they can do is preach. They are encouraged not to go to college, not to get a good job that offers the type of benefits they now need, but rather to spend that time in the ministry. The organization doesn't care that your nephew now has to walk around without teeth, they will tell him that he should just see it as a test, and that others have overcome much more to keep preaching. I remember one assembly where they actually told an example of a person in a heart lung machine that dictated letters that could be mailed as a way to preach. (don't know if it was true, doubt it)
It's good that you feel compassion for your nephew, if you want talk to your sister, express your sympathy but don't get sucked into paying for their mistakes, you have your own family to worry about. If you continue to bail your sister out everytime she has a problem she will never learn. In fact, she will say "Jehovah always provides"
Don't be an enabler!!!

a while ago i had a discussion with a jw who swung the conversation around to "the blood issue"... .
i asked him that as he "abstained from blood", does he therefore only eat "kosher meat".. his response was "what's does kosher mean" !.
i explained, and he then told me that all meat nowadays was "kosher", and that the red juice that runs from a steak is infact "meat juice" and not blood, so it was okay to eat.. hmmmmmn.... .
"Where will you go?"
aah, the last resort question of every good JW
i found this interesting.... .

My opinion is very little, based on the JW's I know. Very very few have anything to do with the internet other than booking vacations. Behind closed doors they may grumble about reporting hours, anti-education, 1914 etc, but in the light of day, they do not want to rock the boat that is their lives...all the while praying incessantly for the "end to come" to validate their decisions.
What do you guys think?

Dawn,
First i want to say welcome to the board, i'm sure there are many hear that can feel your pain. I am just breaking away from the JW cult myself and know the pain they can cause. They are taught that shunning people is an act of love and protection so it doesn't supprise me that she is not allowing her son contact with yours.
And your husband is right, she will need you again, how you handle that situation is up to you.

i just knew the gb would find a way to keep on going when the end never seems to come.
well, new light shining brightly we all recently learned that the 144k are still being selected.
no more need to "graft" new ones onto the broken branch.
This was just in the May 1, 2007 WT Questions from Readers- last two pages of course. What is unbelievable is that no one, not three elders or pioneers at book study today, which was about the 144k even knew about it or understood it and it is a huge NEW LIGHT and very clear.
Coaster,
I have to agree with you, I brought this to the attention of an elder who said he did not see this as new light. It was only after I, a rank and file, on the way out, witness, explained it to him that he admitted I was right and that it was new light. However, that was the end of it, no mention of it as new light from the platform, no talk of it in conversation, nothing. Its like they're ashamed of it.

does doing what is right in god's eyes mean we have to use only bible terms?
i know the organization is not perfect.
is there strong evidence that he has his people here on earth that although not perfect, are doing his will?
the part about demons had me cracking up. i would love to hear of a real life experience you've had where demons were talking to you. also, the one about people possesed by demons made me sick. what you are basically saying, is, god is such a hard-ass, that, he won't help you until you call him by the name you people have given him. lol that cracks me up. like god's up there going,,,,,what's the magic word?
please? wrong
lord? wrong
god? wrong again
jehovah? Hey you got it, now i will help you.
if your god really is like this, you can have him.
LOL, never thought about it that way, you make a good point, don't think I really want him either.

MRP,
I used to be like you, seeing only what I wanted to see, but then I took my blinders off. Now I see people of every religion, color, and cread who are happy. Are there those in the world who have ruined their lives with all sorts of vices? Definitely, but the same holds true for witnesses I know. The Org. puts unnecessary burdens on people in the name of God robbing them of their joy. If you are happy then good for you, but after 25 years of following man's directives, that changed in the twinkeling of an eye, I said "enough" and now the only unhappiness I have in my life is the unhappiness of knowing I would loose friends and family if they knew what I really felt and thought.
Respectfully,
RV
